I have been importing geotiff's and exporting Orux maps wihtout any problems, it all works great.

I am now trying to make/import vector maps for New Zealand. LINZ make the vector data available as either LSIFF or Shape files. If you convert the LSIFF data with GDAL you just end up with the sahpe data LINZ supplies directly.

The shape data seems to consist of three files -
db file
shx file
shp file

When I make the vector map I import the shp file I seem to get all the data, but am missing the names, colours and other attributes (suspect these are in the db and shx file).

The map get created ok with all the shapes drawn, but they are all black ie no colour, and all unnamed.

I think I am missing something ?

If you go to the linz site (http://www.linz.govt.nz/topography/topo-maps/map-chooser/singleview.php?xPos=9461&yPos=8905&scale=2&extent=1-BH28#digitalfile) you can download a small tiff and shape files

I tried to upload the shape file but was unable to do so.

Are you able to assist please.

To set color and lines thickness go to List - Themes (after have imported shape files) and set your preferences.
I think .mdx is a proprietary format.
These are the shape file (from wikipedia):
Mandatory files :
.shp — shape format; the feature geometry itself
.shx — shape index format; a positional index of the feature geometry to allow seeking forwards and backwards quickly
.dbf — attribute format; columnar attributes for each shape, in dBase IV format

Optional files :
.prj — projection format; the coordinate system and projection information, a plain text file describing the projection using well-known text format
.sbn and .sbx — a spatial index of the features
.fbn and .fbx — a spatial index of the features for shapefiles that are read-only
.ain and .aih — an attribute index of the active fields in a table or a theme's attribute table
.ixs — a geocoding index for read-write shapefiles
.mxs — a geocoding index for read-write shapefiles (ODB format)
.atx — an attribute index for the .dbf file in the form of shapefile.columnname.atx (ArcGIS 8 and later)
.shp.xml — geospatial metadata in XML format, such as ISO 19115 or other schemas
.cpg — used to specify the code page (only for .dbf) for identifying the character encoding to be used

In order to view shape files with the colours symbols etc you need to have an ???.mxd file.

This tells the viewer how to represent the various points lines and polygons in the shape file.

This mxd file will have been created by the map creator but I have no idea how you can get hold of it

OkMap isn’t a software specialized in vectorial maps but use them to enrich raster maps.
However you can create pure vectorial maps importing shape files.
Some attributes may be assigned during import procedure.
However you can modify them after using function “List themes”.
It seems that color attribute aren’t in dbf file but I could be wrong.
